Environmental research of polar regions in the Finnish Meteorological Institute during the Polar Year (2007-2009)
The fourth International Polar Year will take place during the period from March 2007 to March 2009. ICSU and WMO will coordinate this extensive campaign of multinational and interdisciplinary research of the environmental variability and its coupling with human activities in the polar regions. In Finland the Thule Institute and the Arctic Centre form the national IPY Secretariat which coordinates the finnish IPY activities.

The Finnish Meterological Institute (FMI) participates to several research projects which the IPY Project Office has endorsed as IPY core activities. The list of the IPY projects with significant FMI contributions is as follows:
Pan-Arctic Climate Variability Activity for the Past 50 to 150 years (PACLIVAP-50-150)
