Weather and Climate | Rain and cloudiness | Info on radars - International co-operation
International co-operation
Rain does not stop on national borders. Thus radar data exchange is most natural form of international co-operation. Finland and Sweden have exchanged data since 1990's (NORDRAD), and the other neighbours have joined in.

European co-operation is organized by the Eumetnet programme OPERA (Operational Programme for the Exchange of Weather RAdar Information) since 1999.

An international composite such as in our sample image, shows easily any differences in measurement data. Hence improving the quality of the measurement has been an important co-operation issue. Also, Finland and its neighbours share many challenges due to climate and location, such as snow and sea. Thus the partners for many research projects have been found from countries with similar climate.
